lacho dives

Dear Traveler,
come rest.

The fire has been waiting for you. Welcome to the fireside of an American Gypsy: histories, dances and survival wisdom from my people, whose survival has never depended on rescue.

Here, dance is the most enduring act we perform: to shake, stomp and jump at the very foundations of who we are, and we have been doing it for a very long time. Movement, not machinery, was humanity's first technology: the way we learned to transmit memory, measure time and make meaning together.

I am opening this fire to you, stranger who I hope may become my friend, because you are the one who heard the call to sit by my side. When you're ready, get up and dance next to the flames.

Practices

Micro-Dance, Timespinning, Human Momentum & Gypsy Fires Podcast

Micro-Dance is full-body neuro-percussion: snap, slap and stomp your way back to sanity. Timespinning is an ancestral laboratory for broken traditions, guided by harp and Romani philosophy. Human Momentum is a reading group with Alex Carberry exploring systems design through embodiment and decolonial perspectives. The Gypsy Fires podcast explores decolonial dance history and Romani philosophy.

Kalipen

Darkness is not a curse or something to be understood in rigid doctrine. It is life, and it is who we are.

It is our kalipen: darkness or blackness. It carries no lineage of sin, rank or formal theology. Blackness in our own tongue is not something to be counted, assessed or centralized, but the fluid movement of time, memory and relation.
